So much imagery is conjured up with the word porch: the age-old picture of the grandfather rocking in a squeaky old wooden chair as the summer days laze by...lemonade or mint tea when company stops in...truth be told, I sometimes think of To Kill A Mockingbird, and how Jem, Scout and Dill hid under the porch of their own house when they played "Boo Radley". There's a story in my own family about how my dad hid behind the lattice under a neighbor's porch to avoid getting into trouble after some mischief he'd gotten into with friends.
